Alcohol Crashes Logic Model

The logic model for reducing alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes emphasizes the role of retailers and DUI enforcement.  Price is also important, but beyond the scope of a local community prevention effort.  The adjoining diagram, showing the interventions in the “bubbles,” includes improving retail serving practices (refusing sales to minors or intoxicated patrons) via server training and enforcement of serving laws, as well as standard DUI enforcement operations. DUI enforcement operations include random roadside breath testing and “saturation patrols,” in which law enforcement officers are dedicated to patrols looking for impaired drivers.  Nuisance party patrols can intervene where drunkenness is obvious (loud noise, guests spilling into the street, etc.).  Social host liability for guests can be brought to bear upon impaired driving as well.
